Did you ever notice how most people who start off at a young age taking piano lessons rarely continue past high school? Then, when these people grow into adults many of them will eventually regret their decision to quit. So much so that, many will actually seek out a new piano teacher and start all over again.

Why do most people quit? I don’t think it’s because they’re not motivated or they don’t like music. I believe it’s because they don’t realize why they’re taking piano lessons in the first place. Sure they can tell you that music is important and they probably should be trying harder but the fact is most simply cannot tell you the real reason for learning in the first place.

Do you want to know why? Ok, here it is. I truly believe that music is engrained into our subconscious and most of us truly want a way to express ourselves in ways that words cannot. Not only has music been around since the dawn of time, way longer than most modern forms of entertainment but, music is an integral part of our humanity.

Music resides deep within us and when we hear it, sing it, play it, share it, learn it, teach it or even dance to it, we get a little closer to who we truly are; multi-dimensional beings who are ultimately creative.

So why do we quit? Because we get discouraged when we cannot express ourselves through music the way we want to. Usually this happens because we compare our abilities to others and the distance between the way we play music now and where we want to get seems insurmountable. But, here’s the good news. Nothing can get in your way of learning if you just realize that know matter how you play you cannot be bad. Expressing yourself in any way with music is a good thing and can never ever be bad.

Now, I’m not going to go as far as saying that most piano teachers cause their students to quit because that would mean that it’s intentional. Nothing could be further from the truth. However, I do believe that many teachers lack the necessary skills to teach their students how to play from within. What does that mean? It means that teachers know how to teach notes, scales, rhythm, harmony and how to play a piece of music. What most of them fail to realize is that there is much more to teaching music than just what the mind can absorb.

If teachers knew how to tap into the souls of their students by providing the right motivational, emotional and spiritual information then, it would be easier for their students to overcome all the obstacles of learning to play. In fact, no obstacle is too big to overcome on the way to learning to be a great artist or musician. The drive is within all of us, it just needs to be recognized.

So, how can teachers learn the necessary skills? By learning how to tap into their own creative energy. You see it’s all about energy. It would be impossible for a teacher to share information about energy if the teacher lacks the creative energy themselves. Creative energy comes from within. In my experience, many teachers have never learned how therefore can’t possibly teach it.

Learning to tap into creative energy is a process which can be learned. It’s never too late. The first step to learning is realizing that you are not already connected to this energy. Then, once you realize that you’re not connected you begin to search for ways to get connected. How? By focusing on the reasons you play music. For example; you do not play music to impress rather you play music to inspire.

Music causes emotional changes within us that are positive. Most music anyway. Of course you have to be wary of low energy music that disguises itself as high energy music such as heavy pounding rock with repetitive angry lyrics. But, piano does not fall into this category. Piano music is the perfect outlet to express innate creative energy. If more teachers are to see the results they desire then more teachers will have to tap into their own creative energy.

Is it possible to play piano in outer space? Or, perhaps, on the moon? Is gravity needed at all? Would the sound even travel in a vacuum without any atmosphere?

As we venture out into space and contemplate the possibility of populating other worlds, I, being the eternal wonder-er, grapple with the concepts that future humans will undoubtedly have to confront. At the present rate of population growth, the human race will inevitably outgrow planet earth, if not physically, then as a source of sustenance. Someday, someone living on foreign ’soil’ will want to play the piano, or some facsimile of a modern piano, and I wonder how it will be done.

With even the most advanced technology we have today, there will undoubtedly be months or even years of time to pass as humans venture out toward other celestial bodies. That strikes me as a fantastic opportunity to take up a new hobby like playing piano and even progress to the point where pretty good proficiency could be attained. Lessons could be of the audio/visual kind, many of which already exist right here on earth today.

I imagine a scene with a low gravity world of a minimal atmosphere which is not breathable by our race, becoming inhabited. Possibly, there would be the occasion for a concert–a recital of original piano works by a future composer/musician. A musical instrument resembling a piano would be on stage with the artist preparing to offer up his latest creations.

Even without the use of life-sustaining apparatus, would the audience be able to hear the music? Doesn’t it take a thick atmosphere to transmit sound waves? Would the notes be audible only within inches of the stage and then drop off?

Maybe, all the listeners would have to have their ‘communication device’ aligned to a specific frequency to be able to receive the digital transmission from the stage, and only then if they had offered up some kind of ‘currency’. A silent concert then, for all those who hadn’t paid.

As a student of science, I think I can say without equivocation that the standard pianos we are familiar with would be rather useless ‘out there.’ The phenomenon we sense as ‘action’ when we hit a key requires a known and specific action/reaction scenario which would not really work without earth’s gravity. Unless the gravitational forces present on a foreign planet were accounted for, the action might be effortless and the sound too loud, or just the reverse. And how would you even think about tuning? Surely, the frequency of vibrations would be different too.

Oh well. Guess I really should get back to practicing. I have enough trouble playing the piano on planet earth.

When you finally decide to learn to play the piano, you have to find piano lessons for beginners and jump in with both feet. Here is this large instrument that you have seen all your life and probably even poked around on from time to time. Now you are going to learn how to actually put your hands on the keys, in the right place, and make what you hope will sound somewhat like music.

There are so many things to learn. You have to learn what notes the keys stand for and in 7 octaves, no less. You will have to use both hands equally even though you can’t even write with your left hand! (Right hand if you are left-handed). You will finally know what music theory is. Tuning the piano…..but you don’t even have a piano!

You don’t need to buy a piano to take piano lessons for beginners. You can use a tabletop keyboard or pick up a used stand-up piano. If you can’t afford that, most music stores will rent a piano to you for a nominal fee.

You can find piano lessons for beginners on the Internet, in books you can pick up at the library or your favorite bookstore or hire a teacher to physically teach you. The Internet lessons and the books will afford you the opportunity to learn at your own pace and from the comfort of your own home. Some people can discipline themselves to do this but others need a teacher beside them to better understand the lessons.

However you decide to take piano lessons for beginners, you will need to spend the time and effort to succeed. Do you remember back in school when the teachers tried to teach you a subject like Algebra and you had never seen anything like it and you wondered how you were ever going to understand it, much less pass the class? You listened, practiced and learned. That’s what learning the piano will be but you will be greatly rewarded.

How do you escape the endless headaches of traditional piano lessons? By taking online piano lessons of course! Discover how to do just that at http://www.learn-to-play-piano.org

It used to be not too long ago that the only way to receive lessons for playing the piano were through a music studio or private lessons through an instructor or music tutor. That has all changed thanks to the Internet and the processing speed of the home computer.

Piano lessons in general were a fright for most kids growing up. Instead of being outside playing with their friends, they were stuck inside practicing their notes on the piano. Luckily this was only once a week as these private lessons were expensive. After some time, the tutoring stopped as the piano was never really grasped by the student due to disinterest. Now that these kids are grown up, they long to be able to play and wish they had practiced more. Still, private lessons from a qualified instructor are expensive, so where do they turn to when they wish to learn the piano but can’t afford private lessons?

An online course is much cheaper than a private lesson. If a private lesson costs 30 or 40 dollars per week, just think about how quickly that adds up. You can take an entire online course in piano for a fraction of the costs that you would acquire taking weeks of private lessons. Also, private lessons are only usually one hour per week. If you have questions during the rest of the week, or if you forget something that your teacher said, you will have to wait for your next lesson to continue your learning. However online piano courses are quite different.

With an online piano course, you can work at your own pace. As long as you have a computer to access the internet, and speakers to listen to the lessons, you can learn as much or as little as you’d like. You can also take as many lessons per week as you’d want, or go back and listen to your last lesson if you have forgotten anything. Most adults who want to learn how to play piano enjoy being able to go back and listen to their previous lessons. It can give you a good idea of what you were doing right, what you were doing wrong, and what you should be doing before the next lesson.

Of course, if you need someone to sit beside you and offer you instant feedback as you are playing, you might not benefit from an online piano course. Most people find, however, especially adult learners, that they are able to tell when they are playing something right and when it is wrong, so they don’t really need an actual instructor to sit next to them. The lessons online can be viewed at any time, or as often as you’d like, which means that you can get your own type of feedback from an online piano course. If you have the money for a private instructor, you might not choose to go with internet courses. However, most people will say that they benefit from the online courses.

Trying to find an accredited or worthy online virtual piano course might prove difficult if you don’t know what to look for. Call around to companies that sell or service pianos; they are sure to have the information you need. Some also operate the online sites and are more than happy to get you online and more importantly into their stores.

There are many different online kids piano courses and software packages available today and it’s now much easier than it’s ever been to get your kids started on the piano without having to splash out on a piano tutor. Unfortunately, it’s pretty much impossible to tell which system is best and if you don’t actually play or teach the piano yourself, you don’t stand much of a chance when trying to weigh up pros and cons of each one.

In just a second, I’ll reveal my favorite piano software for kids but first, I’d like to talk a little about why I advocate using software to get kids started with the piano (it’s not just about saving the cost of a tutor).

It Provides A More Comfortable, Relaxed Environment For Your Kids To Learn
If a child has no previous experience of the piano, it can often be quite daunting to have to go out and visit a piano tutor to take lessons – consider how you’d feel even as an adult in this situation. Although there are some great piano tutors, and I highly recommend finding one a little further down the road, it’s not always a relaxed and happy atmosphere to start out in.

Online kids piano courses and software packages are a great tool to help solve this problem. They allow you to take the reins and start to teach your child the piano in the comfort of your own home, at your (and their) own pace, even if you’ve never played the piano in your life. This brings me to my next point.

It Gives You Some Quality Time Together
Using an online kids piano course or piano software is a great way to get some quality time with your kids. Today’s piano learning software packages are lots of fun and really well structures so that you can both hove fun whilst your child learns to play the piano and you learn to teach it!

My personal recommendation for piano software for kids can be found at this page. I love this one for it’s fun, yet well structured lessons, and it’s bright and clear graphics.

I’ve also reviewed three different options at this page.

Teaching your children at home can be such a rewarding experience. For whatever reason you chose to homeschool I am sure you want to offer your child the best education possible. Have you considered adding piano lessons to the subjects you teach your child? Homeschool piano is becoming more of a possibility these days thanks to the internet. Even if you don’t know how to play the piano yourself, these online courses can teach you as well as your child.

You can now download online piano software that teaches you and your child how to play the piano in a fun and easy way. You will learn how to read music, play by ear, and play any song you have ever wanted to learn. The best part is that you can do this at your own pace at a fraction of the cost of traditional piano lessons. And since you are already homeschooling your child it will be an easy addition to your curriculum.

Learning to read music is like learning another language and there is a lot of mathematics that go along with playing the piano so it is a positive addition to subjects you are already teaching them. Playing the piano enriches your life in ways nothing else can. There is so much beauty in creating music that until you try it you don’t know what you are missing. Whether you want to play for yourself or others, write your own music, or simply teach your child an amazing skill I highly recommend it.

There are several options of software to choose from, but I have been greatly impressed by one in particular. Visit Homeschool Piano to learn more about this online piano software.

I have the privilege of teaching a wonderful group of adult piano and organ students on a weekly basis. Some of my students are beginners, some are intermediate and some are advanced. The reasons they are taking lessons vary. Some of the adult piano students are taking lessons to enhance and broaden their skills, some are learning pedagogical techniques, some are studying theory and others are learning to play the piano simply for pure pleasure and enjoyment.

Each of these students brings to their lessons a variety of joys, challenges, needs and desires. I have to but listen to them and to their playing to gain a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. So, what do I learn every week from my piano students?

Perseverance – steady and continued action or belief, usually over a long period and especially despite difficulties or setbacks. Learning to play the piano as an adult can be a daunting task, yet week after week, I have students who continue to diligently practice to attain technical proficiency.

Patience – the ability to endure waiting or delay without becoming annoyed or upset. Learning to play the piano as an adult is a slow process and often the technical ability to reproduce the sounds heard in recordings or in the student’s mind is slow in coming. The patience required to achieve a modicum of success in playing the piano is immense.

Fortitude – strength and endurance in a difficult situation. Learning to play the piano as an adult is not accomplished by playing at the piano for a few minutes a week. It requires mastering difficult eye-hand coordination skills which takes an inordinate amount of time at the piano.

Determination – firmness of purpose, will, or intention. My adult piano students set goals for each series of lessons. To fulfill those goals and dreams requires a firm resolve to continue practicing and studying even when the desired results are slow to attain.

Discovery – the fact or process of finding out about something for the first time. Learning to play the piano involves a new language and a new set of skills so is replete with discoveries. Watching my students make discoveries is a great joy.

Happiness – feeling satisfied that something is right or has been done right. When one of my students successfully plays a piece that has been a goal or a dream, the satisfaction for them and for me is incomparable.

Pride – the happy, satisfied feeling somebody experiences when having or achieving something special that other people admire. My students form a happy, connected cohort and admire each other’s successes.

Knowledge – general awareness or possession of information, facts, ideas, truths, or principles. Each of my adult piano students posses a knowledge of music that they bring to their piano study helping them resolve piano playing challenges.

Wisdom – accumulated knowledge of life that has been gained through experience. The varied life experience of my students has opened doors of the world to me that I never imagined existed and each piano student brings that life knowledge to their music in intriguing ways.

What a wealth of information my students share with me weekly as they learn to play the piano!

Dr. Jeannine Jordan is a successful piano teacher focusing on the adult learner. Her students play songs in a day. “If you’ve always wanted to play piano songs quickly and easily join Dr. J at Play Piano Today for a free tutorial to play the piano.”

Piano lessons provide a great advantage for children schooled at home. Because parents are in charge of their children’s schedule and curriculum, homeschool students can set their own pace and spend more time on music than in the public or private schools. In the public schools young children go to music class about once a week. Not nearly enough time to develop their musical talent, and rarely are they able to learn an instrument such as the piano. This is unfortunate because of the educational benefits of piano lessons for elementary school age children. Home school parents, however, can provide all the benefits of piano for their children right in their own home. And there is no reason not to with all the resources available to homeschool parents on the internet.

So gather your homeschool team of friends and discuss this wonderful opportunity. Music is even more fun when you can share it with others. Small groups of children can develop their musical talent using keyboards and ear phones. Today the keyboards available are of good quality and reasonably priced. Create a space in your home and start your own homeschool piano club. Below are five things your children can learn in piano at home.

How to -

1. Set Goals to achieve their music dream;

2. Overcome worries and performance fears;

3. Become more patient with their learning;

4. Be persistent in their lessons; and how to

5. Take responsibility for their success.

These are character traits all children need to reach their dreams. So don’t wait to give your children the gift of music!

To learn the best way to share the gift of music with children visit Amazon.com for my Piano Bears Musical Stories for Children The exciting Piano Bears Musical Stories for children ages 5 to 11 feature the loveable characters, Mrs. Treble Beary and her new piano student, Albeart Littlebud. Children love following along with Albeart to Mrs. Treble Beary’s piano studio in Musical Acres Forest. Here they learn what piano lessons are all about in a fun way that kids readily understand and appreciate! Piano students laugh and giggle while reading “Little Bear’s Musical Garden” and “Little Bear’s Piano Goals.”

For a wealth of f’ree information and piano music online visit Piano Bears Music Education Resources Don’t Wait to Share the Gift of Music!
